BINGHAM, SECOND VICE-PRESIDENT Por THE CHURCH HOME SOCIETY 41 MT. VERNON STREET BOSTON, MASS. FOUNDED 10ss-INCORPORATED 188 December 12, 1928. MISS KATHARINE P. HEWINS, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Possibly you were present when a representative of The Church Home Society spoke in your parish on the work of this agency for the care of children in Massa- chusetts In that case, I do not need to tell you what the Society is doing. If you have not heard one of our speakers, you may not know that our Society Some of these looks out for church children and young people who need guidance. children come from homes which are a menace to their future. We study the needs of each child, and, if his own home is broken beyond repair, put him in a foster Не home where he will be understood and helpad to become normal happy child. will go to church with his foster mother and father, and will be educated for self We also care for that most tragic figure-- the unmarried mother. support. For nearly seventy-five years the Society has been do ing this Samaritan work. I wish I might tell you the story of children who have written to us of their gratitude. We have made of them an asset to society rather than a liability. Part of our financial support comes from the Diocese of Massachusetts, granted by the Bishop and Council; part from our ondownment; part from relatives who often only by self-denial can pay a little of what it costs to give their child a chance in life. For the rest we must look for voluntary contributions from those who real- ize what it means to a lonely child to find someone who understands and cares. Mr. Hoover says: "The ideal to which we should strive is that there should be no child in America that has not been born under proper conditions, that does not live in hygienic surroundings, that ever suffers from undernutrition, tnat does not have prompt and efficient medical attention and inspection, that does not receive primary instruction in the elements of hygiene and good health." The Church Home Society does all this and more for its wards. Christmas will soon be here. Will you share your Christmas with a child You may do this in the name of a who needs your help through the coming year? child whom you love. With very best Christmas wishes, I am Sincerely yours, Heleu Oech Let me tell you very briefly the story of one of our many children. P.S. Member: National Council Chrch Mission of Help The tC
