THE AMANA COMUNISTIC SOCIETY
In 1854 a strongly religious people ande
permanent settlement on rolling, fertile prairie
land near the Iowa River. The culmination of
their wandering from Germany was in such a
tract of 25,000 acres to which the colonists
gave the name of Amana ("Remain Faithful")

is practiced to win for the 1800 individual (
members a better spirit of Christianity. The
ownership of land and property in common makes
for serving God through self-denial. The
integrity of the people is shown by the high re-
gard in which the products of their two woollen

outside world. The life of the Anana community
in their seven villages in severely simple and
strongly patterned by the religious motive.
