The gang of teenagers that
raped a young investment
banker in Central Park be-
lieved they had beaten her to
death - and laughed about
the vicious attack later in a
police stationhouse.
"They left her for dead.t
They thought she was dead,"
a well-placed law enforce-
ment source said of the eight
rape suspects, aged 14 to 17,
who described the attack in
videotaped statements to po-1
lice.
As the brutal wolf pack be-
gan wending its way through
the court system - and fam-
ily and friends of the 28-year-
old woman kept a bedside
gil- sources said the state-
ments, taken from the boys
after the Wednesday night at-
tack, depict a horrifying 15-
to-30-minute encounter.
The woman screamed
