V VICTOR HASSELBLAD AB SWEDEN The single-lens reflex is the best camera. for close-up photography. As a result, approximately 80 % of all single-lens re- flex owners use their cameras for close-up work of all types, i.e., macrophotography, photomicrography and photocopying. The fundamental reason for single-lens reflex camera superiority in this field - just as in many other fields is com- plete freedom from parallax. Regardless of the combination of supplementary lenses, extension tubes and bellows ex- tensions used, the image you see on the ground glass screen is identical with the final picture. Every photographer will find occasion to do close-up work. Amateur photogra- phers are rewarded with interesting pic- CLOSE-UP PHOTOGRAPHY tures of insects, flowers and other fasci- nating subjects of patterns. Physicians. and scientists use close-up pictures for research purposes. Advertising photo- graphers exploit the impact of the close- up shot and its unique ability to attract attention. Industrial photographers need close-ups to show the details of a ma- chine, instrument or operation. The single-lens reflex camera simplifies. close-up photography, but nonetheless scrupulous care is necessary for best results. Exposure must be determind. accurately, especially when using color. film. Depth of field must be carefully checked and camera vibrations must be avoided. This booklet discusses these problems and others encountered in close-up photography.
