them improve their administrative methods;
the Committee on Research and Publicity,
which through many channels of publicity
is informing the public on the work and
aims of the Federation and the federated
activities; the Committee on Co-operative
Purchasing, which is working out econ-
omies in buying supplies; and the Con-
ference on Illegitimacy, which is striving
to unify the work of organizations dealing
with the unmarried mother.
WHAT IT HOPES TO DO
A goal of $400,000 in gifts, 12,000 givers,
prevention of deficits on current expenses
and cancellation of all outstanding deficits
on current expenses of previous years, has
been set by the federated activities and the
trustees for the current fiscal year, which
closes on September 30.
To accomplish this end of caring ade-
quately for the city's charitable needs, the
co-operation and support of every think-
ing citizen of the "City of Good Will" is
needed. Just so long as givers hesitate to
organize their giving to organized charity
and to stand with "the Friends of Man,"
just so long will "the greatest step in the
history of cities" fall short of the fullest
It can only be complete when all
success.
the members of the community form one
great team to fight off poverty and misfor-
tune, with their attendant evils of vice,
crime and disease, which threaten all citi-
zens as "members one of another."
