LYMAN SCHOOL FOR BOYS SCHOOL LYMAN BAND. FIRST CORNET INTHE U.S. A. WHO GOT HIS TRAINING AT THE LYMAN SCHOOL, WRITES Aug. 4, 1903. Dear Sir: I have just received your letter of the 28th and will qlad- ly answer it. spent the last few months in studyinq music to fit me for the place lam now in. 30, '03 lenlisted in the Army and like it very well. On June I cannot say just what I would like to. I can't seem to get what I want to say from a pen or pencil. If every boy who was at the school qot the lesson that I qot they are havinq a qood time now When went to the school in 1898 I was put in the band and through the in structions of Mr.Wilcox I learned to play a cornet. Well, when I went to the school for my second time, Iwas put in the band aqain. Wheeler I now thank God that I was so unfortunate as to be sent to Lyman School. It done what I quess no other place could do. Well, I will tell you, Mr. I used to qet some qood letters from Mrs.Wheelock when I was at home, but I have not qot any since have been out here, I know she will write as I think she has just the same kind words for me now that she did when I was at the school. The place out here is as qood as a fellow could want to be in. Up to the day I was sent to Lyman School lused tobacco like a child uses candy. The last time I used tobacco was June 12,1898, the day before I was sent to Lyman School. If you ever want to hear from me, just say so and I will qladly If you see Mr. Wilcox just tell him where his old lst. cornet player is and tell him that he is the cause of all my qood luck. I like here and intend to stay and save a little pile and make a mark in the world. lam on the road to success and it will take more than an ordinary mishap to block my way. lam in the best of health and feeling like a kinq over my success. When leave the band I will be an all round Ist class musician. This band is considered the best band in the Army. As I have nothing more to say just now I will have to close hopinq it won't be lonq before I hear from you aqain. answer it. sincerely yours, I remain as ever,
