I have the honor of acknowledging receipt of your letter of March 28,
1911, expressing the thanks of the American Society of Civil Engineers
for the invitation extended to them to examine the work of constructing
the nama Canal, and inclosing copy of the resolutions passed by the
members of the Society who inspected the work of building the Panama Canal.
It is a very great pleasure to receive such commendation from such an
authoritative source, and I feel sure that the fact that such approval has
been given will give assurance to the American people and establish the
merits of the enterprise and of the manner in which it is being conducted
fully in their confidence. I regard this visit by the members of the
American Society of Civil Engineers to the Isthmus as of great public value.
